Study Tour to Poilwa and Heunambe

The Department of Sociology organized a Study Tour to Poilwa and Heunambe in Peren District, and Dzüleke in Kohima District, from 28th February 2026 to 1st March 2026.

The primary objective of the tour was to provide students with practical exposure and firsthand understanding of rural livelihood patterns and socio-cultural structures. Through direct field observation and interaction with the local communities, students examined various economic activities that sustain village life, including sheep farming, agricultural cultivation, and tourism-based enterprises. These engagements enabled them to connect theoretical sociological concepts with lived realities.

The tour also offered valuable insights into the rich cultural heritage of the villages. A significant learning component was the study of the traditional Morung system, organized khel-wise, which reflects indigenous patterns of social organization, customary practices, collective identity, and community values.

A total of 24 students, accompanied by faculty members, participated in this out-of-classroom academic activity. Overall, the study tour proved to be both educational and enriching, broadening the students’ sociological understanding through experiential learning and field-based inquiry.
