Our Grade 11 Arts students stepped beyond the classroom for an enriching experiential learning visit to the Heirloom Naga Centre, Sovima, exploring Nagaland’s vibrant cultural heritage and living traditions.
The students had the opportunity to discover the artistry behind traditional Naga weaving, intricate loin-loom patterns, indigenous handicrafts, traditional motifs, colours, textiles, and attire representing the diverse Naga communities. Interacting with local artisans gave them a deeper appreciation of the knowledge, skills, and stories woven into every creation.
What made the day even more special was seeing how traditional craftsmanship is being thoughtfully adapted into contemporary and sustainable designs, demonstrating how heritage can be preserved while continuing to evolve with the times.
Beyond the learning, it was also a day filled with friendship, laughter, food, fun, and togetherness. Sharing a meal, enjoying little moments with classmates, and creating memories along the way made the experience all the more meaningful. These are the moments that make school life truly special.
The visit beautifully reminded us that heritage is not simply something we preserve- it is something we experience, celebrate, and carry forward.
Because the best lessons aren’t always found in books- they’re found in the experiences we share, the stories we discover, and the memories we make together.
