SAKSHAM (IOCL/PCRA) 2018

The annual Oil & Gas Conservation Month ‘Saksham (Sanrakshan Kshamta Mahotsav)’ kick-started at Livingstone Foundation Hr. Sec. School, Dimapur on 16th January 2018 with Mr. Alun Hangsing, NCS, Secretary, Department of Food & Civil Supplies and Legal Metrology & Consumer Affairs, Govt. of Nagaland as the Chief Guest.

Saksham (Sanrakshan Kshamta Mahotsav) is an annual flagship event of Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) under the aegis of Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Govt. of India , with active involvement of the Oil & Gas PSUs along with other stakeholders like State Governments, for creating focused attention on fuel conservation through people centric activities and to sensitize the masses about the conservation and efficient use of petroleum products leading to better health and environment. During this year’s month long ‘Saksham-2018’ from 16th January to 15th February 2018, various interactive programs and activities are planned with the campaign on fuel conservation. The month long campaign aims to intensify efforts for making citizens especially school and college students aware about the conservation and effective utilization of petroleum products. For this, PCRA will carry out various student centric activities such as Cycle Expeditions, Quiz and Painting Competitions, etc.

The hour long programme started at around 11:00 AM with a brief introduction by Mr. Zakir Hussain, Coordinator of LFHSS. The Welcome Address was delivered by Mr. T. Dharmaveer Singh, Manager, Retail Sales, Tinsukia Divisional Office, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd., while the Key-Note Address was delivered by Mr. Deepak Kr. Pathak, Chief Divisional Retail Sales Manager, Tinsukia Divisional Office, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. In his Key-Note Address, Mr. Pathak dwelt in length about the importance of observing the Conservation Awareness month for creating the much needed awareness on fuel conservation especially in India. According to him, the Oil & Gas Conservation programme was started in 2002 by the PCRA (Petroleum Conservation Research Association) under the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas.
After the Key-Note Address the Sanrakshan Kshamta Mahotsav Pledge was administered by Mr. T. Dharamveer Singh to all the students, teachers and guests present on the occasion. The pledge was mainly undertaken to make the students shoulder the responsibility of a good citizen and endeavour to create awareness among the masses to avoid wasteful use of petroleum products.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest, Mr. Alun Hangsing, NCS highlighted the tremendous way in which India can bring about a change in terms of fuel conservation as India with a population of more than 1.3 billion people is presently one of the most highly populated countries in the world. He underscored the importance of taking up adequate responsibility to carry out fuel conservation at individual levels by conserving fuels like LPG and Petrol.

The Chairman of Livingstone Foundation Hr. Sec. School, Mr. Andrew Ahoto while welcoming the gathering to the programme opined that the future generation will face trying times if fuel conservation is not undertaken in due earnestness. He advised the gathering to especially the students to be more scientific in their individual levels so that real conservation can take place. According to him, the word ‘Saksham’ translates into ‘Capable’ in English and therefore if every individual inculcates the spirit of conservation in their minds they will be truly capable of bringing changes. He also suggested that using bicycles by the students and staff should be made mandatory in all schools and colleges.

Earlier, the Chief Guests and other dignitaries were felicitated by the Chairman of LFHSS. The programme came to a close with the Vote of Thanks proposed by Mr. N. Kashung, Asst. Manager, Retail Sales, Dimapur Retail Sales Area, Tinsukia Divisional Office, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd.
