4th Nagaland Chapter Of Indian International Model United Nations 2018
The 4th Nagaland Chapter of the Indian International Model United Nations (IIMUN) 2018 was held at Livingstone Foundation Hr. Sec. School, Dimapur on 9th and 10th November 2018 with Shri K. G. Kenye, Hon’ble MP of Rajya Sabha from Nagaland as the Special Guest. Student delegates from 6 schools from Nagaland including Livingstone Foundation Hr. Sec. School participated in it. The inaugural function of the IIMUN Nagaland Chapter was held at the LFHSS Auditorium on 9th November 2018. The programme which began at 9:00 AM was led by Mr. Vernon Fernandez as the compere. The programme began with the singing of the National Anthem which was followed by a special number entitled ‘Flashlight’ by delegates from Zion Academy. The opening speech and prayer was said by the Principal Academics of LFHSS, Mr. Prabhat Mandal.
This year’s Chapter of IIMUN Nagaland was formally declared open by Mr. Shlok Sharma, Resource Person of IIMUN who also delivered a short speech. This was followed by a Mashup Dance item by Petra Dance Academy. In his Keynote Address the Dean of Patkai Christian College, Mr. R.K. Mehra, spoke on his appreciation towards LFHSS organizing such an event and encouraged the students to discover their strengths and weaknesses. He also advised the students to develop a habit of learning social service. IIMUN’s Senior Director and Head of North India Zone, Shri Kamil Sheikh also presented a short speech on the occasion.
In his enlightening speech, the Special Guest, Shri K.G. Kenye, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha said that diversity is the strength and the beauty of the Nation and if any leader of the nation does not accept the fact, he or she does not qualify as a leader of the state, and how to make use and to capitalize on these facts and characters is our job. He appreciated the Organization of IIMUN for bringing an opportunity to our young generation to participate in progressive benefiting events which he hopes will usher in the world to our doorstep and avail opportunity and also be a window to the world to join hand to participate in all activities concerning humanity and to become part of global citizenship.
The student delegates from various schools including Livingstone Foundation Hr. Sec. School participated in debate sessions across the two days under five different Committees of IIMUN Nagaland Chapter viz., the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), UN Women, Lok Sabha and the International Press (IP) & Logistics and Nagaland Legislative Assembly in which they deliberated on current political and social issues. The general mode of conducting the sessions was the representation of various Countries in the UN and Ministers/Members of Parliament (Lok Sabha) by the delegates who were issued specially made Placards which contained the names of Countries or portfolios and names of Ministers or MP’s which the delegates represented.
The students had hands on experience on the working of world bodies like the UN Security Council and also the legislative proceedings as carried out in the Lok Sabha and the Nagaland Legislative Assembly. A special team of Executive Body members had come from Guwahati to look after and chair the proceedings of the committees.
The two-day event of the IIMUN Nagaland Chapter finally came to a close on 10th November 2016 with the closing ceremony which was held at the LFHSS Auditorium from 4:00 PM onwards. The brief programme began with a special number by Miss Akhrole Keyho from Mountain Music Academy. This was followed by the presentation of Awards in the form of Medals and Certificates by the Chairpersons of different Committees to the Awardees of Best Delegate, High Commendation and Special Mention Awards of individual committees. This year’s Best Delegation Award was won by Hope Academy, Dimapur who were presented with a Trophy by Mr. Zakir Hussain, Coordinator of LFHSS. It is worth mentioning here that according to the convention of IIMUN Chapters the host school is not eligible to receive the Best Delegation Award. The awardees from LFHSS included Mr. Kanishka Assumi who won the Best Photographer under the IP Committee, Miss Anjali Gajmer who won the Special Mention Award for her role as Subhash Chandra Bose under the Lok Sabha Committee, Mr. Lhoulabilie who won the Best Delegate Award under the NLA Committee and Mr. Janson Albi who won the Best Delegate Award under the UN Women Committee. A special Dance Item was also performed on the occasion by performers from Roxy Filmcity, Titabar, Assam. The closing ceremony came to a formal close with the Vote of Thanks proposed by Mr. Zakir Hussain and Mr. Kamil Sheikh.
