AWARENESS ON TRAFFIC RULES AND ROAD SAFETY 2024WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY 2024
An Awareness Session on Traffic Rules and Road Safety was conducted by the officials of Dimapur Traffic Police at Livingstone Foundation International on the 10th of September 2024. The session was attended by the students and mentors from Grades-VIII to XI and was led by Ms. Ngimchule Nampeung, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Dimapur and Ms. Likao Odyuo, Officer In-charge of Traffic, Dimapur.
The awareness session was a part of an initiative of Dimapur Traffic Police to sensitize more than 60 schools of the district. The officers mainly emphasized on the consequences of underage driving and the criminal charges that juveniles may face for violating the traffic laws.
The session covered essential road safety tips, including understanding traffic light signals and factors that contribute to road accidents, such as poor road conditions and reckless driving. Students were also informed about the rights of Good Samaritans under Rule 168 of the CMV (12th Amendment Rules 2020), encouraging them to assist accident victims without fear of legal consequences. They emphasized the criminal charges and penalties associated with underage driving, an issue that affects many juveniles.
During the session, students were provided with essential road safety tips and an understanding of traffic light signals, highlighting how road conditions and driver behaviour contribute to accidents. The importance of the Golden Hour rule, which highlights the need for immediate medical attention after an accident, was also discussed. This informative session helped students understand the road safety rules in a more in-depth manner along with proper understanding of the importance of following traffic laws, and the legal consequences of violations.
