WWF MCOP-5 2024
A team of two students, Mr. Yangernok Lemtor of Grade-XII Arts and Master Yimji Chingkhu of Grade-IX and one mentor, Mr. Gideon Sangma from Livingstone Foundation International took part in the prestigious 5th season of the Model Conference of Parties (MCOP-5) organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) which was held at New Delhi from 10th to 12th July 2024. Prior to the three days of physical interaction by the students, they also participated in two days of virtual sessions.
Along with Nagaland, 28 other states and union territories took part in the event which included Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Sikkim, Karnataka, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Kerala, Puducherry, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Lakshadweep, Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh, Goa, Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, Assam, Bihar, Gujarat and Odisha. A total of 58 students, accompanied by one teacher delegation from each state, actively participated in the conference.
The three-day event was divided into multiple session including Expert Sessions, Skill-building Workshops, Action Planning and Project Work. Another exciting part of the event was the Cultural Day which showcased students from various states displaying their cultural dances, attires and songs.
The MCOP5 provided a platform for students to gain in-depth knowledge about biodiversity conservation and develop essential skills for environmental leadership. The student delegates from Livingstone Foundation International, along with their peers from other states, were empowered to take proactive steps in their communities to protect and conserve the environment.
The participation in MCOP5 was a valuable and enriching experience for the students. The knowledge and skills gained during the conference have prepared them to become responsible citizens and environmental stewards. The event highlighted the importance of teamwork and community engagement in addressing global environmental challenges.
