ANNUAL SPORTS WEEK 2023
Amidst much excitement and fanfare, the much anticipated event of the LFI Annual Sports Week 2023 was organized at the Green Lawn on the 2nd and 3rd November 2023.
The sports week was marked by various track and field events like Sprints, Obstacle Race, Tug-of-War, Long Jump, Cock Fight, Spoon Race, Bursting the Balloons, Potato Race, Arm Wrestling, Shot Put, Sack Race, etc. which were enthusiastically participated by competitors from among the four houses of the school viz. Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.
The inaugural programme on the first day of event began at 9:30 AM with the opening prayer which was pronounced by Mr. Norbert Achung which was followed by the unfurling of the LFI Flag by the Chairman of LFI, Dr. Andrew Ahoto Sema, who was the Chief Guest on the occasion. This was followed by the Sports Torch Run and lighting of the Sports Lamp by the LFI Head Boy, and Head Girl after which the National Anthem was led by Mr. Gideon Sangma and Mrs. Abigail Thapa. The Oath was administered upon the participants by Mr. Vernon Fernandez, one of the coordinators. The Annual Sports Week was declared open by the Director of LFI, Mrs. Ani Yepthomi.
During his brief discourse, the Chairman encouraged the students by citing that they were fortunate to be a part of LFI where not only the academic well being of the students was taken care of with diligence but also it caters to the overall and holistic growth of the students through various activities all round the session. He also underscored the importance of games and sports in the life of a student apart from mere classroom learning which will ultimately make an individual smart and healthy for a life time.
The closing ceremony on the 2nd day was led by Mr. Vernon Fernandez and Ms. Ruangriu Panmei of Grade-V who enthralled the gathering with her melodious rendition of the patriotic Hindi number entitled ‘Teri Meeti’. Soon after, the results were announced much to the excitement and uproar of the students. John House was declared as the overall champion of the Sports Event with a total point of 9565 while Mark House, Matthew House and Luke House came very close with a decent 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively. John House was overwhelmed with much appreciation and accolades as they also won the Best Discipline, Best Cheering, Best Decoration and Best Cleanliness Awards which definitely made them the undisputed champions.
