INTERNATIONAL DAY OF YOGA 2023
The National Cadet Corps (NCC) and the Yuva Tourism Club of Livingstone Foundation International observed the International Day of Yoga in association with Livingstone Foundation Society and Breeze Women Welfare Association on the 21st of June 2023. The day was observed with a morning Mass Yoga session by the students and mentors which was led by a group of LFI students of various grades including Ms. Wantan Sumnyan of Grade-VIII, Ms. Gracy Gangte of Grade-VIII, Ms. Karma Chozom of Grade-X, Ms. Thejasano Suokhrie of Grade-XII Arts and Ms. Limeka Aye of Grade-XII Arts. During the yoga session, the gathering of students and mentors were imparted with several yogic asanas including Surya Namaskar, Halasana, Paschimottanasana, Bhujangasana, Urdhvahastasana and Ardhahalasana.
Earlier, before the yoga session, the Chairman of LFI, Dr. Andrew Ahoto Sema exhorted the gathering on the health benefits of yoga in day to day life. Terming yoga as a rich ancient exercise with lots of health benefits, he said that it has no religious significance whatsoever. He also underscored its importance whereby even the United Nations declared 21st June as the International Day of Yoga on 11th December 2014 by recognising its universal appeal. He further encouraged the students and mentors to develop a habit of undertaking regular exercise including yoga session so that a healthy mind dwells in a healthy body. He also highlighted the importance of regular and perfect practice which would ultimately make a perfect person.
In a run up to the main event, on 20th June 2023, a Quiz and Essay Writing Competition was also held at the LFI Auditorium on this year’s theme of ‘Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’. In the Essay Writing Competition, Miss Lialo Swu of Grade-XB won the 1st position while Miss Temjensola Walling of Grade- IXB and Mr. Rongdisen Pongen of Grade-XIIA Arts bagged the 2nd & 3rd positions respectively. The Quiz Competition was won by Mark House with a total point of 65 while Matthew House and Luke House came in the 2nd and 3rd places. The winners of the Quiz and Essay Competition along with the five students who led the yoga session were awarded with certificates on 21st June 2023 during the yoga session by the Director LFI, Mrs. Ani Yepthomi along with the Chairman.
