INTERNATIONAL DAY AGAINST DRUG ABUSE & ILLICIT TRAFFICKING 2022

With an aim to bolster the collective fight against the growing menace of drug abuse and addiction in today’s society, especially among the youth and school going children, Livingstone Foundation Society organized a programme to mark the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2022. The programme was hosted by Livingstone Foundation International and conducted by Community Awareness and Development Foundation (CADF) at its auditorium on 28th June 2022 under the theme, ‘Addressing drug challenges in health and humanitarian crises’.

Giving a brief talk on Drug Abuse during the occasion, Mr. Limhathung Ezung, Project Director cum Chief Functionary of CADF highlighted the different types of drugs used by individuals and the ill-effects of each drug.  He also gave a brief explanation on illicit trafficking i.e. illegal selling and supply of drugs. During his testimony, Mr. Imbang, Supervisor, Day Care Shelter, CADF talked about how he came in contact with the usage of drugs at the age of 18, and how he along with his family had to deal with stigma and discrimination from the society. He also shared about how his life transformed after coming in contact with CADF after which he received medical help and counseling. Upon recovering, he started serving the foundation as a supervisor and is presently making a difference in the lives of many young people who have become addicted to drugs.

Miss Alenuo Delie, Project Coordinator, CADF gave a brief talk on the basics of HIV/AIDS. She spoke on the origin and the relation between HIV and AIDS, its effect on an individual and the different ways through which the virus is transmitted. Speaking on the topic of stigma and discrimination, Miss Lunglubuile, M&E, explained on what Stigma and Discrimination is all about, the importance of accepting and respecting every individual equally irrespective of their background and how the people involved in such drug use needs love and support to help them recover.

Earlier, welcoming the gathering, Ms. Adora Avitoli Sumi of Grade-XI expressed gratitude to CADF for conducting such an important awareness programme to share with the students their valuable inputs on the burning issue of drug abuse. The programme concluded on a solemn note with the vote of thanks proposed by Ms. Cynthia of Grade-XII.
