Sovereign God and Merciful Father,
There is none like you and none beside you. You alone are the True and Living God.
And you know us. You know our weak and frail condition. You know every hair on our heads, every tear we shed, every loss we experience, every injustice we endure, every sin we commit. Our suffering is not unknown to you. In eternity, it is “light and momentary.” In 100 years no one alive today will be on the planet.
But today, on the ground, in the only real time we know, our brothers and sisters in Ukraine, along with many who call upon you in Jesus, are suffering horribly. You are Sovereign, but we are limited by time, space, and how we see the moment. In this moment, we are helpless and horrified, and filled with sorrow for our friends in this land.
Be merciful, O God. End this war, we pray. We know that you have turned back armies and
nations with sounds and confusion, and horns, and by making the sun stay in the sky. You need no firepower or numbers.
In your Mercy and by your by the awesome Word of your mouth, we pray that you will end this war, and all the destruction and suffering it has brought, and turn back Russia in a clear and decisive display of your greatness and glory.
Hold the Ukraine people in the palm of your hand, as you held those who endured the fiery furnace, and the one who was delivered from ravenous lions.
We know that peace won’t come to this world until you make all things new. We know that there will always be “wars and rumors of war.’ But, we plead your Mercy for this people, to your People, O God, You are our refuge and strength, and a very
present help in trouble. Hear our heartfelt
supplication on behalf of the people of the country of Ukraine. Protect those in danger with your holy angels and grant them courage. Turn back all manner of attacks. May hostility fade away. Let Your peace descend upon the whole land, so that the shedding of blood in warfare, violence, terrorism, tyranny, and all manner of strife may come to a swift end. Enlighten all civil authorities around the world with wisdom to diligently work for reconciliation. Honour and Glory – for you are Worthy.
Through Jesus. Amen.
