NATIONAL CLEAN AIR PROGRAMME 2023

A one-day awareness generation session on National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) under the theme ‘Awareness Generation on Mission Life Activities’ was conducted by the Nagaland Pollution Control Board at Livingstone Foundation International on the 15th of May 2023 at 1:00 PM.

The awareness session which was conducted for the students of Grades-IX to XII at the LFI Auditorium was led by Mr. Yanathung Kithan, Scientist ‘B’, NPCB and Ms. Olivi G. Chophy, Senior Scientific Assistant, NPCB as the Resource Persons.

Speaking on the topic of National clean Air Programme, Mr. Yanathung Kithan pointed out that the quality of air in Dimapur has been consistently getting worse which has become a cause of concern. He pointed out that the main cause of air pollution in Nagaland is bad road conditions as it generates a lot of dust, vehicle fumes, burning of waste materials like plastic in an open space. He also discussed on the health impacts of air pollution which has caused Asthma, Cardiovascular, Lung Cancer, Diabetes, and Child Development problems.

He further urged the students to be cautious of burning of waste especially plastics as it is hazardous to health. He encouraged the students and mentors to take initiative for controlling and making a world a better place. He ended his presentation with an audio visual presentatio which emphasized on air pollution and its consequences.

Ms. Olivi G. Chophy spoke on the topic of ‘Mission Life’. She emphasized on the importance of Saving Energy by switching off electronic appliances when not needed, to opt for public transportation rather than private transport, to walk or cycle for short distances, to save water by turning off the taps after use and reusing water for basic essentials. She also urged upon the students to say ‘No’ to Single Use Plastic and rather opt for cloth bags or carry own bags when going for shopping. She also asked the students to adopt a healthy lifestyle by reducing e-waste and substitute with eco-friendly or biodegradable things and also to educate the near and dear ones for creating awareness among the people on sustainability.

The programme concluded with Vote of Thanks proposed by Ms. Rongsenben, Junior Scientific Assistant, NPCB.
