STONITES PARTICIPATE IN STREET PLAY ORGANIZED BY BWWA
The LFI Dram Troupe under the mentorship of Mr. Uto Chishi took part in a street play on the topic of ‘Myths and Truths surrounding COVID-19’ on 13th December 2021 at DC Court Junction. The street play was organized and promoted by Breeze Women Welfare Association (BWWA) which is a registered NGO established in 1982 by socially committed Women, Youth, Scientists, Educationists and Renowned Individuals working towards improving the overall condition of socially and economically weaker sections of our society by bringing about social and educational reforms.
The street play projected the current situation in most parts of India and especially the North East where people are very apprehensive and skeptical towards the COVID-19 vaccine whereby they are even attributing the disease and the vaccination to supernatural and superstitious ideas and myths.
Talking to media persons who were present throughout the event, Mrs. Ani Yepthomi, the President of BWWA and Director of LFI gave a brief highlight about the history and organization of BWWA. She also expressed the need and importance of conducting such awareness programmes like the street play as many people are still very reclusive and skeptical towards such things as vaccines. According to her the global pandemic of COVID-19 has affected people from every walk of life. It has also led to numerous speculative ideas and rumours among the common people, even with the issue of taking the vaccine. She expressed her belief that people need to be made aware of the realities of the pandemic and thus take them away from the superstitious beliefs. And therefore such initiatives like the street play will go a long run in creating adequate awareness about societal issues like COVID-19.
It is noteworthy that the street play is an ongoing awareness programme and will be carried out in various pockets of Dimapur in days to come.
