Signature Campaign To End Gender Based Violence 2018

As a part of the 16 Days Signature Campaign to end Gender Based Violence against women in Nagaland, the Sisterhood Network, an NGO fighting for the rights of women in Nagaland organized a programme at the new School Campus of Livingstone Foundation Hr. Sec. School to sensitize the students and mentors of the school on the campaign to ‘End Gender Based Violence in the
World of Work.’
The programme, which was led by Mr. Vernon Fernandez as the MC, started with the School Prayer which was led by Ms. Nitisha Jain of Grade-XB. This was followed by the key-note address by the Director of Sisterhood Network, Mrs. Azungla James who dwelt on the main reason for initiating the campaign. 16 Days of activism against GBV is an international campaign to challenge violence against women and girls. According to her the campaign runs every year from November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, to December 10, Human
Rights Day. She called upon the gathering to unitedly fight against any form of violence against women and girl child in the society. She concluded by saying that with the rise in cases of Violence Against Women, it is time to come together and raise our voices against this during the annual fortnightly campaign instated by UN Women.
This was followed by a beautiful and powerful song on the theme of women empowerment entitled ‘Skyscraper’ presented by Ms. Eva, a member of Sisterhood Network. Speaking on the occasion, the Chairman of LFHSS, Dr. Andrew Ahoto emphasized on the important role played by women in the society which must be respected by all and sundry. He cited examples like Mary Kom who has made India proud in the whole world. He also called upon the students to shun violence in any form against the feminine gender and also to stop bullying in and off campus.
After the brief programme the heads, mentors and students signed on a flex banner and papers made especially for the purpose. The signed flex banner and papers will be submitted to the offices of the Prime Minister of India, Nagaland State Commission for Women and Nagaland State Department of Social Welfare.
