PLASTIC WASTE BIN DISTRIBUTION BY LIFE & DMC 2018

Under the Better Dimapur initiative of Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) and LiFE (Living For Environment), four officials visited Livingstone Foundation Hr. Sec. School on 3rd May 2018 to donate a Waste Bin specifically designed to collect all kinds of plastic wastes including polythene bags which is causing an environmental disaster by polluting the environment. The waste bin was handed over to Mr. Arthur Edwards, Administrator LFHSS in presence of some teachers and office staff.

The DMC suggested two target schools of Dimapur, viz, LFHSS and Christian Hr. Sec. School as part of its initial programme to check plastic waste and use it for productive purposes like making plastic roads. The programme is more focused on the solution rather than the problem. Since its formation in 2016, the NGO LiFE has been primarily working in coordination with government agencies including DMC for preserving, conserving and protecting the environment.

According to the Chairman of LiFE, Ms. Nicky Jamir, the plastic waste from the target schools would be collected every week so that the aim of plastic waste collection from the source is fulfilled which would, in turn, ensure that the plastic waste does not end up in the garbage dumps. She also highlighted the usage of plastic waste in making plastic roads which is one of its kind initiatives. She said that already plastic roads using plastic wastes have been made in Nagaland, including the entrance road of DMC Office, Duncan Basti Road and a road in Mokokchung.

The other officials who visited included Ms. Achano, Photographer DMC, Mr. Aokonang Ozukum, Vice-Chairman LiFE and Mr. Sungjemwapang Lkr., Member LiFE. The officials had a group photograph session with the Administrator and Staff of LFHSS. Later on, the team visited the Chairman, LFHSS, Mr. Andrew Ahoto.
