NCC IN LIVINGSTONE-A BRIEF REPORT

National Cadet Corps (NCC) has been the frontal youth organization of our nation and also it is the largest youth organization with more than 13 lakhs cadets. Since its initiation under the NCC Act 1948, the organization has been successful in achieving unity, discipline and leadership potentiality among the youth.Livingstone Foundation Hr. Sec. School is privileged to have two troops for both boys and girls viz. the 1st Nagaland Girls Battalion (Girl Cadets) and the 24(Indep) Coy, NCC (Boy Cadets). The troops are further divided into various sub-divisions as follows – Junior Division Boys (JD), Junior Wings for Girls(JW), Senior Division Boys(SD) and Senior Wings for Girls(SW).New Enrolment: The annual activities of the NCC at Livingstone started in the year 2011 for girls with the new enrolment of 50 cadets, making the total authorized strength of 100 for both Senior Wings as well as Junior Wings. In 2013, after the Junior Division and Senior Division were introduced 50 cadets were enrolled in each troop. The new cadets were later alloted with their regimental numbers.Social Services: Social Service activity is a part of the training of NCC under the commanding officer of 1st Nagaland Girls Battalion, and 24 NL (I) Coy, NCC, Kohima and also with the advice and active co-operation of the administrative body of the school, principal, faculty and staff members of the school. Various social services were organized within and outside the school premises.Camps: This is the most important part of the NCC activity. In camps the cadets are given collective training with emphasis on development of qualities of leadership, confidence, discipline and spirit. The cadets are given the opportunity to enjoy and learn about camp life and they are selected for various competitions like singing, dancing, firing drills, best field drill, extempore speech, etc.The list of Camps which the NCC Cadets from Livingstone School have attended are as follows:i) Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC-I) – 8 Dec to 17 Dec 2011 at Don Bosco Hr. Sec. School, Dimapur.ii) Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC-II) – 23 June to 2 July 2012 at St. Joseph School, Chumukedima.iii) Special National Integration Camp (SNIC) – 3 July to 14 July 2012 at St Joseph College, Jakhama.iv) Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC) – 8 Dec to 17 Dec 2012 at Don Bosco Hr. Sec. School, Dimapur.v) Assam Rifles Training Camp (ARTC) – 9 May to 18 May 2013 at Assam Rifles Training Centre, Dimapur.vi) Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC) – 8 June to 17 June 2013 at Patkai Christian College, Chumukedima.vii) Special National Integration Camp (SNIC) – 18 June to 29 June 2013 at Patkai Christian College, Chumukedima.viii) Inter Group Competition cum Pre- Republic Day Camp-I – 30 Sept to 9 Oct 2013 at Guwahati.Achievements:In the year 2011, the Cadets went for their first Camp where there were various competitions. The cadets of Livingstone School again participated in the CATC 2012 at Don Bosco Hr. Sec. School, Dimapur. The results were as follows:i) Group Song – 1st Positionii) Duet Song – 1st Positioniii) Group Dance – 1st Positioniv) Inter Coy Basketball – 1st Positionv) Solo Song – 1st Positionvi) Duet Dance – 2nd Positionvii) Folk Dance – 3rd PositionThe results of the Cadets’ participation in the CATC 2013 at Patkai Christian College, Chumukedima are as follows:i) Best Drill – Cadet Kaketo Awomi, 1st Positionii) Rifle Firing Competition – Cadet Benthungo Humtsoe, 1st Positioniii) Extempore Speech Competition – JUO Athungbeni, 1st Positioniv) Group Dance – 1st Positionv) Basket Ball (Both Boys and Girls) – 1st Position.The above list of competitions and success stories are ample proofs that Livingstone Foundation Hr. Sec. School has always excelled in almost all fields of activities of the NCC since the time of its inception in 2011.NCC as a Curriculum Subject: Under the latest norms of the CBSE, NCC has been made as an elective subject for the students of Grade 11 and 12. Livingstone School implemented this from the beginning of 2014. The students are taken according to the vacancies available on a ‘first come first serve’ basis. The present allotment of seats is 100 boys and 100 girls. The classes on various aspects of NCC like Drill, First-Aid, Map-Reading, Weaponry, Disaster Management are held throughout the academic session.Livingstone Foundation Hr. sec. School had the privilege of hosting the Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC-IV) at the campus of the Junior School and the Hostel Block. The camp began on the 20th of March 2014 with Col. S. Bhardwaj, SM as the Camp Commandant. More than 600 cadetsfrom all over Nagaland participated in the 10 days Camp. The Camp was organised by the Boys Unit of 24 NL(Indep) Coy NCC, Kohima. The one of its kind camp was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone including the PI Staff and the Officers and Cadets. According to them its was one of the best camps they have ever attended. Even a Facebook Group by the name CATC:LFHSS was also formed after the camp. The cadets were divided into 4 Platoons namely Mark, John, Matthew and Luke. The various activities which took place during the camp were Games and Sports, Cultural Items, Solo Songs and Dances, Firing, Group Dance, Individual Drill Competition and Inter-Company Drill Competition. The Camp got over on the 29th of March 2014.Though it has been only three years since the NCC was born in Livingstone School, within this short span the Cadets have proved beyond doubt they are behind none. They have excelled in almost every field and lived up to the challenges of the NCC. Above all they have always upholded the tradition of ‘Unity and Discipline’. May the flag of NCC in LFHSS, Dimapur keep flying higher and higher.JAI HIND!!
