Understanding Society through Cinema
The Department of Sociology organised a meaningful cinema session, using “Homebound” as a medium to understand society beyond textbooks and classrooms.
The film offered a powerful reflection on social inequality, caste, class, discrimination, migration, unemployment, friendship, and the struggles faced by marginalised communities. It encouraged students to look beyond individual experiences and understand how social structures and inequalities shape people’s lives and opportunities.
Through the film, students were given an opportunity to engage with real social issues, develop a critical sociological perspective, and reflect on the society around them.
Because sometimes, a story on screen can help us understand society more deeply than words on a page.
