A one-day Philately Workshop was conducted at Livingstone Foundation Hr. Sec. School, Dimapur on 24th January 2018 by the Nagaland Postal Division, Department of Posts. Mr. Andrew Ahoto, the Chairman of LFHSS who himself is a well-known Philatelist, was the Chief Guest as well as the main Resource Person of the Philately Workshop. During the course of the workshop Mr. L. Imtikumzuk, Marketing Executive, Nagaland Postal Division declared the opening of a Philately Club in the school. With this, Livingstone Foundation Hr. Sec. School becomes the first ever school in Nagaland to have a Philately Club.
More than 80 member students of the Philately Club from both Junior as well as Senior sections of LFHSS attended the Workshop which started at 10:00 AM. Speaking on the occasion as the main resource person, Mr. Ahoto, the Chairman of LFHSS spoke about the various collectible items that people collect around the world and the passion that drives people to take collection of items as a life-long hobby. According to him, Philately is the King of all Hobbies or the Hobbies of the Kings. It is the study of postage stamps, revenue stamps, stamped envelopes, postmarks, postal cards, covers and similar material related to postal history. In a broader perspective, it also refers to the collection, appreciation and research activities on stamps and other philatelic products. He spoke in length about the origin, etymology and the importance of such a glorious hobby like Philately and encouraged the gathering to take up Stamp Collection as hobby from an early age. He highlighted the fact that the value of things depend on it being rare. In short, somebody’s thrash is someone’s treasure. He also added that it was never too late to start taking up Philately as a hobby but it all depended on how interested and devoted one is to take up the various challenges of the hobby.

During the course of his discourse on Stamps, he dwelt on the various kinds of Stamps like Definitive, Commemorative and Thematic Stamps. He also displayed to the gathering some rare Commemorative and Thematic Stamps along with First Day Covers and rare artifacts from his collection.

Mr. L. Imtikumzuk, Marketing Executive, Nagaland Postal Division while giving the opening note of the workshop, appreciated the school for taking up the initiative of popularizing an age-old tradition like Philately and for always being supportive towards the various endeavours of the Postal Department. He also talked about the benefits of Stamp Collection and how to open a Philately Account with the Postal Department.

Mr. Imtikumzuk presented Mr. Andrew Ahoto with a Special First Day Cover Memento on behalf of the Nagaland Postal Division as a token of gratitude. The In-Charge of the LFHSS Philately Club, Mr. Isaac Athili was presented with some sets of Philately Tools, Stamp Collector’s Albums, Calendars and Philately Account Opening Forms during the programme by Mr. Imtikumzuk.

Earlier, the welcome address was delivered by Mr. Zakir Hussain, Coordinator of LFHSS. The Workshop concluded at around 11:35 with the closing note and Vote of Thanks by Mr. Prabhat Mandal, Head of Academics, LFHSS.
